Allied Health

Blackstone Career Institute’s selection of allied health courses, such as Medical Transcription and Medical Billing & Coding, teach individuals the skills needed to work in the growing health care industry. Our courses allow health care providers the opportunity to easily reach their instructional goals through convenient online training. For those employees holding a two- or four-year degree in another area that want to break into this expanding field, our allied health courses offer access to essential training without the expense of obtaining an additional degree.

Upon graduation, Medical Transcription students will have completed many hours of transcription practice using modern transcription equipment connected to a computer. They will be familiar with the body’s anatomy, associated terminology, diseases, medical procedures, laboratory procedures, and pharmacology. Students who graduate from BCI’s Medical Transcription program are qualified to sit for the Registered Medical Transcriptionist (RMT exam administered by the Association for Healthcare Documentation Integrity). With further experience, graduates can take the AHDI’s Certified Medical Transcriptionist (CMT) exam.

Medical Billing & Coding students will gain a working knowledge of the CPT, HCPCS II and ICD-9 and ICD-10-CM coding systems. This program is well-rounded, and includes lessons in medical terminology, pharmacology, billing, coding, medical office practice, and more. Because of the great demand for qualified allied health employees, training existing employees in this field will help to reduce staff turnover and allow valuable members of the staff to gain new skills and responsibilities.
