Admission Requirements
Blackstone Career Institute requires a high school diploma or general equivalency diploma (GED) for admission into the Medical Transcription program.

All applicants must complete and return the Enrollment Agreement along with the required down payment. Applications will be processed only if accompanied by the required down payment. There are three ways to enroll:

• Enroll online using a credit card.
• Call 1.800.826.9228 to speak with one of our student service representatives
   (phone enrollments must be made with a credit card).
• Print the Enrollment Agreement and mail or fax it with your check, money order, or credit card
   information. (This is a PDF file, which requires Adobe Readera fast, free download.)

Tuition
The tuition at Blackstone Career Institute is a set fee that covers the entire program. The tuition fee can be found on the Enrollment Agreement or in the Tuition section and includes all textbooks, study guides, exam evaluation services, as well as the Medical Transcription diploma you will receive upon completion of the program.

Credit for Previous Education
Tuition reduction will be considered for similar completed college coursework within two years preceding entrance into our program. Blackstone will make the determination of credit upon receipt and evaluation of an official school transcript and course description(s). Limitations apply.

Duration
You are encouraged to progress at your own rate. BCI allows two years to complete the program - the average student takes about 15 months. If more than two years is required, an additional six month extension is available for a nominal fee.

Examinations and Grading
After reading each lesson, you will complete the required examination and send the answer sheet to our school in the pre-addressed envelope provided. Each examination will be hand-graded by one of our instructors. A Grade Report will be sent to you accompanied by page reference of incorrect answers. You can also submit your exams electronically in our Online Student Center. When taking your exams online, you will receive an electronic Grade Report instantly. The grading system is as follows:

Students are required to have the following to complete this course:

  Windows ® 2000 Professional or later operating system
• 24MB RAM (Windows ® 98/Windows ® 98 Second Edition); 32MB RAM (Windows ®
  Me/Windows ® NT; 4.0); 64MB RAM (Windows ® 2000 Home/Professional or Windows ® XP)
• Plus an additional 8MB for each application running simultaneously
• 100MB available hard disk space minimum
• 2x CD-ROM drive or higher
• VGA or higher monitor recommended
• 16-Bit Sound Card or higher
• Standard USB Port
• Speakers connected to your sound card
• Microsoft ® mouse or other compatible pointing device
• Printer
• Audio Cassette Player

Course Interruption

A leave of absence (LOA), for a maximum of three months, will be granted for good cause. A request should be made in writing to the Student Services Department. A LOA does not extend the required time for completion, nor postpone the required payments of any tuition plan.
