Meet Your Pharmacy Technician Instructor

Laura Zagnoni, Pharmacy Technician Consultant

Doctor of Pharmacy

Laura graduated with both her Bachelor of Science and Doctor of Pharmacy from the University of Arizona. Over her career in Pharmacy, she has experience in a variety of roles in several different clinical practice settings.
Although most of her experience has been as a pharmacist, Laura was a Pharmacy technician and a Pharmacy intern before becoming a pharmacist, working in a retail pharmacy, as well as the inpatient and outpatient pharmacy of a large community hospital. As a pharmacist, she has worked in a dispensing role in Community Retail, Inpatient, and Outpatient Hospital pharmacies, as well as in a consultant role at Maricopa Medical Center, a large, teaching, county hospital in the Phoenix area. While there, she was an integral member of the clinical teams on the Burn Unit, the Medical and Neonatal Intensive Care Units and covered clinical consultations throughout the rest of the hospital. Additionally, she was also a clinical practice instructor for Pharm.D. students electing a Clinical Pharmacokinetics Rotation in their final year of school. Laura left Maricopa Medical Center to accept an adjunct faculty position at the College of Pharmacy at Midwestern University in Glendale, AZ where she taught Clinical Pharmacokinetics and the Infectious Disease section of the Integrated Pharmacy Practice course. While in this position, she also served as a student liaison and valued advisor. For the last 18 years, Laura worked in a medical position with the Pharmaceutical Industry. She worked as a Medical Science Liaison for Bristol-Myers Squibb in both their Infectious Disease and Cardiovascular divisions. In this role, she educated physicians, nurses, and pharmacists on the company’s medications in venues ranging from one-on-one meetings in an office to presentations at large meetings and clinical congresses. In her retirement, Laura enjoys learning about wine, traveling and is an active volunteer with the Maricopa Medical Reserve Corps.

How do course materials release online?

Students who pay in full for their program will have access to all of their materials once enrolled. Students who enroll under a monthly payment plan will have access to a new unit every month upon making their monthly payment.

What is the average completion time for students in the Pharmacy Technician program?

Are there externship prerequisites?

To be eligible for an externship, students must:

• hold a minimum 70% grade average

As a true distance education school, we are unable to provide job placement. We do feel confident that our online programs provide the education needed to qualify for entry-level employment. Our Career Center offers students and graduates resources to search for successful employment.

Meet Your Pharmacy Technician Instructor

Laura Zagnoni, Pharmacy Technician Consultant

Doctor of Pharmacy

Laura graduated with both her Bachelor of Science and Doctor of Pharmacy from the University of Arizona. Over her career in Pharmacy, she has experience in a variety of roles in several different clinical practice settings.
Although most of her experience has been as a pharmacist, Laura was a Pharmacy technician and a Pharmacy intern before becoming a pharmacist, working in a retail pharmacy, as well as the inpatient and outpatient pharmacy of a large community hospital. As a pharmacist, she has worked in a dispensing role in Community Retail, Inpatient, and Outpatient Hospital pharmacies, as well as in a consultant role at Maricopa Medical Center, a large, teaching, county hospital in the Phoenix area. While there, she was an integral member of the clinical teams on the Burn Unit, the Medical and Neonatal Intensive Care Units and covered clinical consultations throughout the rest of the hospital. Additionally, she was also a clinical practice instructor for Pharm.D. students electing a Clinical Pharmacokinetics Rotation in their final year of school. Laura left Maricopa Medical Center to accept an adjunct faculty position at the College of Pharmacy at Midwestern University in Glendale, AZ where she taught Clinical Pharmacokinetics and the Infectious Disease section of the Integrated Pharmacy Practice course. While in this position, she also served as a student liaison and valued advisor. For the last 18 years, Laura worked in a medical position with the Pharmaceutical Industry. She worked as a Medical Science Liaison for Bristol-Myers Squibb in both their Infectious Disease and Cardiovascular divisions. In this role, she educated physicians, nurses, and pharmacists on the company’s medications in venues ranging from one-on-one meetings in an office to presentations at large meetings and clinical congresses. In her retirement, Laura enjoys learning about wine, traveling and is an active volunteer with the Maricopa Medical Reserve Corps.

Are there physical textbooks included in the program?

As an online school, our courses use e-books for convenience of studying on the go and to allow us to keep tuition costs down. We do provide the ISBN information for each e-book under the materials tab. Students who wish to purchase a physical copy of the e-book can simply use the ISBN number provided on our website to purchase the book through a third party like amazon or chegg.com.

How do course materials release online?

Students who pay in full for their program will have access to all of their materials once enrolled. Students who enroll under a monthly payment plan will have access to a new unit every month upon making their monthly payment.

What is the average completion time for students in the Pharmacy Technician program?

One of the major advantages in taking Blackstone’s Pharmacy Technician program is that students can work at their own pace. Many students complete the program in 8 -12 months. Students have up to 18 months from their enrollment date to complete and graduate from their program.

Are there externship prerequisites?

To be eligible for an externship, students must:

• complete all Pharmacy Technician coursework
• hold a minimum 70% grade average
• have their tuition paid in full

Below is a list of the most common requirements to be approved for an externship, however you may be asked to provide additional information and/or documentation to your externship site. Additional details regarding this list is found on the following page. Please note that items marked with an asterisk (*) may incur a cost which is the responsibility of the student:

Will credits transfer to a college or university after I graduate?

Blackstone’s online programs are designed to prepare students for entry-level careers. While some schools may accept credits from Blackstone, it is at the discretion of the receiving school. Simply check with the school’s admissions office.

Do you provide job placement?

As a true distance education school, we are unable to provide job placement. We do feel confident that our online programs provide the education needed to qualify for entry-level employment. Our Career Center offers students and graduates resources to search for successful employment.

Where can I expect to find a job as a Pharmacy Technician?

Pharmacy technicians fill an assortment of positions in almost every locale in a variety of pharmacy settings, including hospitals, nursing homes, drugstore chains, grocery stores, pharmaceutical sales, manufacturing companies and physicians’ offices. Often, pharmacy technicians choose positions based on unique interests and skills, previous work experience, or future goals.
