In addition, the purpose behind certification as a Medical Professional is to stay knowledgeable, validate skills and display ability in the field. It shows your competencies and gives employers confidence in your abilities while putting patients’ minds at ease that you will do a thorough job.

What Certifications are available through AMCA?

There is a wide variety of certifications available including the following:

  • Medical Administrative Assistant
  • Electronic Health Record
  • Physical Therapy Technician/Aide
  • Phlebotomist Technician
  • Medical Biller and Coder
  • EKG Technician
  • Dental Support Technician
  • Patient Care Technician

Requirements to Sit for the American Medical Certification Association Exam

Be 18 years of age or older

Have graduated from a training program (you will need to show proof of this at the testing site)

OR

Have worked at least one year in a full time job that provides the necessary experience for the desired field and exam of certification (you will need to show proof from your employer verifying your job status)

How can you take this certification exam?

You can choose to do a paper test at an approved test site at different locations throughout the country, complete the exam online with an approved AMCA test site, or complete the certification online with a live remote proctoring service‚ÄĒProctorU.

After you pass the test, your certification is valid for two years.

If you would like to recertify, you must have a minimum of 10 continuing education hours every two years. Need to know how to get those CE hours? The AMCA has volumes that are available for purchase at $79 for 5 credits or advanced programs at $158 for 10 credits.

 

What happens if you don’t pass the exam?

There is a retesting period! You must wait 30 days before retesting a second time and 60 days if a third retest is needed. However, it is important to keep in mind that these retakes need to be completed with a one year time frame.
